Tamako (たまこ) means jewel child. The fabric design reminisces the Tanabata festival, a Japanese festival held in August which celebrates the stars in the sky, in which people wear traditional yukata robes and write their wishes on strips of paper to hang on bamboo trees. Watching these colorful streamers and strips of decorated Japanese paper, known as tanabata-kazari (たなばたのかざり) tanabata-kazari, blow in the breeze allows visitors to experience the sensation of Japanese summertime. Mon (紋) are Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify an individual or family. Most consistent of a roundel encircling a figure of plant, animal, man-made, natural or celestial objects, all abstracted to various degrees. $39.90
Temari 手まり Temari 手まり means “hand ball” in Japanese. Traditionally, Temari were often given to children from their parents on New Year’s Day. Inside the tightly wrapped layers of each ball, the mother would have placed a small piece of paper with goodwill wish for her child. The child would never be told what wish his or her mother had made while making the ball. $39.90
