Your NYC Neighbor: Tracey Frost Rensky of Citibabes

Your NYC Neighbor – is a way of introducing New Yorkers to a rich community of savvy parents. New York is a diverse City bustling with all kinds of families and personalities. We also love to grab tips and recommendations from moms and dads in certain neighborhoods and throughout the 5 Boroughs, and especially people who have created a product, service or site that helps new parents or appeals to children. Meet Tracey Frost Rensky founder of Citibabes.

Tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up in Sydney Australia in a big family with two brothers and one sister with lots of pets. I studied Business Marketing at University of Technology, then went on to get a Masters in Finance from Macquarie University, both located in Syndey.

Where do you live?
For the past 20 years I’ve lived in downtown Manhattan. I currently live in Tribeca with my husband Filip and my two daughters Natasha, age 11, and Chloe, age 9.

Why do you love where you live?
So many reasons! We live in northern Tribeca which is a bit quieter than other parts of the area. We’re also close to the west side highway, making it easy to escape and enjoy the Hudson River Park or be back in the hubbub of Tribeca and Soho. The neighborhood has exploded with so many great shops and restaurants…Juice Press, Sweet Green, Kaffe 1668 and our new favorite spot…Yves.

What do you do?
I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Citibabes, a downtown family membership club with preschool and enrichment options for children ages 2 months – 5 years. We opened Citibabes in 2005 and my role has evolved every year since then. In the very beginning, I was doing a little bit of everything! As the company has grown, we have built an incredibly talented team that manages the day-to-day, while I am responsible for big picture strategy and long-term growth of the company.

What’s unique about Citibabes?
I can confidently say that there is not another place quite like Citibabes. Since the very beginning, we have placed a huge emphasis on creating community. Citibabes is a place where families can experience our exceptional preschool program and enrichment classes in a supportive and nurturing environment. We will always be a place where families can connect, learn and grow together.

It starts with our popular Citibitty programming, for children as young as 2 months old. While this class focuses on this critical stage of an infant’s development, it is equally about providing the space for parents to come together, socialize and ask questions during this amazing, but often overwhelming time! This level of support carries all the way through to our 4s preschool program, where our team makes sure your family is set-up for the next phase of your child’s on-going educational experience.

What’s ahead for Citibabes?
We recently announced our new Tribeca location, scheduled to open Fall 2017. Our new location, at 142 Duane Street, is the perfect space that allows us to stay true to our mission to serve the entire downtown community. The large three-leveled, light-filled building contains 7 classrooms for our preschool program, including Spanish and Mandarin immersion classes. The split-level layout not only allows us to offer full-day child care and extended day programming for children 12 months old and up, but also gives us room to provide extensive enrichment programming for the entire community.

We envision our new home as a destination play space for all of our families. We’re so excited to be joining the Tribeca community–it has become the epicenter for families downtown. We want to open additional locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn in the next 10 years, and this new space will serve as a template for our locations going forward.
