Your NYC Neighbor – is a way of introducing New Yorkers to a rich community of savvy parents and business owners. New York is a diverse City bustling with all kinds of families and personalities. We also love to grab tips and recommendations from moms and dads in certain neighborhoods and throughout the 5 Boroughs, and especially people who have created a product, service or site that helps new parents or appeals to children. Meet Dr. Vicki Porges, owner at Downtown Pediatrics, a local New Yorker, an amazing mom of two and my friend.

Tell us a bit about yourself?
I was born and raised in Manhattan by two physicians who worked at NYU. I studied sociology at Emory University, after which I attended Columbia University to do a post-baccalaureate pre-med program. I did both medical school and residency at NYU and worked in 2 private practices before starting my own practice in my neighborhood. I have 2 girls, ages 10 and 13, and a husband who is an architect and developer.
What do you do?
I am a pediatrician with an intimate, general pediatric practice in Tribeca.
Which neighborhood do you live in?
I live in Tribeca, which gives me the benefit of living in Manhattan but with the small town community feeling of the suburbs.
What makes your service special?
I have kept my practice at a size, which is manageable and most importantly allows me to feel intimately connected to my patients and their families.
If you were not an MD what would you be?
I honestly can’t think of what else I would be if I weren’t a pediatrician. Growing up in a household where both of my parents were doctors, I had an interest in medicine from a young age. I am actually “4th generation” doctor on my father’s side that is very special for me. I explored other options during college, but when I made the decision to start my pre-med studies, I was absolutely committed to my decision to be a doctor.
